Another toy!

A couple of days ago, my nephew bought me this toy:

SPARKING!!!

It's Konata Izumi from the manga and anime "Lucky Star". I've been jonesing about this toy for years and thanks to my nephew, I now have her. (Actually, my nephew bought one for himself as well.)

I'm a huge fan of "Kona-chan"...probably even more than I am of her hugely popular "long-lost cousin" Haruhi Suzumiya. And the reason for my Kona infatuation is admittedly...bizarre. This is the reason:

That was Konata singing "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA"...the theme song to the highly popular anime "Dragonball Z". TV Tropes described Konata's interpretation of the song as "unorthodox" which is an understatement.

That said, I find Konata's rendition rather endearing. And it was after hearing her version of the song that I became a Konata fanatic. (She does an even "better" job with the theme song to "Uchuu Tetsujin Kyodain".) Aya Hirano, the actress that plays Konata Izumi, is actually an accomplished singer with numerous albums to her credit. Listen to her sing as herself and as Konata:

The irony in Konata's voice...as well as her "smart athelic slacker" personlity is what makes her very interesting...and very lovable. I LOVE YOU, KONATA!!!
